Are there any positives to take from Leicester’s previous game?

After the Nottingham Forest loss, the Liverpool game wasn’t the fixture Leicester City fans were eye-balling as the redemption, it was the weekends tie with West Ham United — a more achievable, yet still challenging, chance for three points.

Brendan Rodgers’ side still couldn’t hold out for the maximum reward, sacrificing a lead late into the game. It’s becoming a staple of the season, thankfully it wasn’t as dramatic as the Spurs game, and the Foxes held onto a much deserved point — albeit conceding from a very familiar set-piece scenario.

With all of this considered, let’s digest what positives I found from the game. In recent weeks, they’ve been minimal, highlighting potential avenues for success from snippets in game, but I came away from the draw feeling optimistic for what Rodgers can still achieve with this talent-ridden squad.

Firstly, the importance of Leicester City’s full-backs to the building phase and progression. This comes with an unfortunate footnote, James Justin’s long awaited return from injury hasn’t gone smoothly, with the youngster sustaining a supposed hamstring injury early into the game. A partnership of himself (as the left-back) and Ricardo Pereira (at right-back), was functioning really nicely.

Brendan Rodgers style, especially during his Foxes tenure, has focused on the creativity from full-backs. Think of his favoured system, the 4-2-3-1, four players central (two centre-backs and two defensive-midfielders) designed to cover the attacking intent of the two full-backs, hence how creative and impactful these players can be.
