The truth about the rumour claiming Rodgers has been sacked
Foxes of Leicester supplies you with the truth about a rumour claiming that Brendan Rodgers has been sacked by the Leicester City board.
On Monday morning talk arose on ‘football Twitter’ suggesting that the Leicester boss’s contract had been, or was about to be, terminated by the east Midlands club. To be honest, many Foxes fan comments I saw were pleased about the speculation.
Then, when a reputable source contradicted the assertion that Rodgers had been removed as boss, the only remarks or GIFs I personally witnessed were of disappointment. The gossip appears to have emanated via FTBL who have a whopping 6.6million followers on Instagram. Although the post has now been deleted.
Owynn Palmer-Atkin, a reporter with BBC Sport, refuted the rumour via his social media account later in the afternoon. You can see the tweet below.
How close is the Leicester City boss to being relieved of duty?
Predicting when or if the Leicester manager will be sacked is not an easy task. Rodgers, as any person at the helm in modern times, is not immune from being under pressure. Just because there is ‘good in the bank’, it doesn’t mean there is an invincibility when threatened with being fired.
Assessing the past form of the LCFC hierarchy is one significant way in which we can forecast the chances of a new Leicester gaffer. Two examples are relevant: Claudio Ranieri and Claude Puel. Ranieri was in charge when the Foxes won the Premier League – but was sacked the following term for poor results.
Meanwhile Puel failed to get the squad cooperating; nor did he win enough matches whilst on Filbert Way. Consequently, a “toxic atmosphere” was referenced by King Power owner Top Srivaddhanaprabha when he removed the Frenchman. Arguably Rodgers is in the same boat as Puel; yet FoL envisions more time for the former Liverpool chief to rectify this campaign. Elimination by Randers in the Europa Conference League would, though, surely seal the 48-year-old’s demise.
