Leicester City face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, aiming to consolidate on their maiden victory in the Conference League. Apart from Caglar Soyuncu and James Maddison, Leicester City also face late checks on the fitness of both Luke Thomas and Ricardo Pereira.

What’s the story

Both Thomas and Ricardo missed out on Thursday’s victory against Randers for differing reasons. The former was confirmed to have a “tight hamstring” which prevented his involvement and forced Marc Albrighton into an unfamiliar left-back role.

Meanwhile, Ricardo was not played as part of his recovery programme from injury. Hopefully, this is a sign of the backroom staff learning from the mistake of overplaying recently recovered players. Unfortunately, this mistake has cost the Foxes several times with James Justin the latest to suffer issues from being rushed back from injury.

Fortunately, neither of these injuries are long-term issues for the Foxes as both players are in contention to play against Wolves. Of the two, the elder is highly likely to start and hopefully build on what was an excellent display against West Ham. Hopefully, Thomas will also pass any late fitness tests as Leicester can ill afford any more injuries.

Ricardo signs a new contract

Whilst talks involving Youri Tielemans’ future seem unlikely to bear fruit, there is positive news on the contract front for the east Midlands outfit. After entering talks some time ago, Ricardo has officially signed a new contract until 2026. This will tie the Portuguese down for his best years until he turns nearly 33. Despite injury issues preventing Ricardo from making as much impact as he could do, his latest performance gives hope that his injury nightmare is behind him.

Against a Wolves side that has won four of their last five Premier League games, he will have to be on top of his game both defensively and offensively.  This showdown will see Pereira face off against many of his Portuguese compatriots as LCFC look to climb the table.
