For Leicester City, this summer is going to be one of the most important in recent years, even more important than the summer after the 2015/16 title win. Enduring a mixed season so far, the Foxes are unable to bring together any consistent form or positive momentum.

In attack, Leicester are often lacking the final clinical pass to goal, but in defence, City are far too soft. Lacking physical presence, leadership, and defensive nous,  this has led to a cataclysmic weakness in the back line. It is clear to everyone that a reshape of the squad is needed.

Whilst a large focus will be on signing new faces to wear the Leicester blue, Brendan Rodgers also needs to make crucial decisions on who he wants to keep at the King Power, and who he wishes to sell. Cashing in on a first-team player has been a staple of recent summers for Leicester – bar last year in a COVID-stricken transfer market – Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Maguire and Chilwell have all departed in yearly intervals. This summer, it seems that the trend will continue.

Youri Tielemans

First, a player that is almost guaranteed to leave: Youri Tielemans. The Belgian is now approaching the final year of his contract and is yet to agree a new deal. Having made over 130 appearances for Leicester since signing for the club – initially on loan – in 2019, the midfielder has become a legend in the East Midlands for his incredible passing, his eye for a screamer, and, of course, his FA Cup final heroics.

If reports are believed to be true, then the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City are all keen on bringing the 24-year old into their ranks. With his deal expiring, the Foxes will be wanting to cash in whilst they still can rather than let him leave for free next season. Reports suggest that it’ll cost around£50m to sign the No.8, a bargain given his talent, and just a bit more than £40m Leicester paid in the first place.
