Leicester injury return dates: Jamie Vardy update, Wesley Fofana news
During his pre-Burnley press conference, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers provided injury news on multiple Foxes players. This included talisman Jamie Vardy and the highly rated Wesley Fofana.
Being able to welcome Vardy back to the starting eleven will invariably lift Leicester. It always does. And that is not intended as a slight to Patson Daka, who is learning his Premier League trade at a great pace. Nevertheless, the former England man is needed at present.
Along with Vardy, Fofana is also arguably the most missed man on Filbert Way. The Frenchman could have established his name as one of the most astute defenders in the division this season. But a horror challenge in a friendly set him back – and the team.
However, there is now an excellent update on the 21-year-old, not to mention encouraging news on the 35-year-old:
"“Jamie Vardy will be back in the squad [to face the Clarets]…”On Fofana:“Over these next few weeks, we’ll try to schedule him into some game time.”– Brendan Rodgers, Lcfc.com"
Burnley match a six-pointer as Leicester City slide down the table
Some fans reading may consider the above subheading slightly harsh or judgemental, as they might believe the east Midlands outfit’s form has improved. A corner has been turned. You get the point.
Yet, I would assert that the Foxes have only started to get going positively again whilst competing in the Europa Conference League. Meanwhile domestic league and cup displays remain decidedly sour with regards to performance as well as outcome.
Looking at results in the top-flight, League Cup and FA Cup since just before the turn of the year is scary. Leicester were knocked out by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup; never an easy task but accusations of bottling arose again. Losing heavily to Manchester City then beating the Reds with two days apart illustrates the inconsistency.
Since then there have been zero EPL victories in five tries; certain opposition during that time were there for the taking, too. Nottingham Forest also eliminated the Foxes from the FA Cup. Of course, Randers were easily bypassed in the UECL in the meantime, though. A loss to Sean Dyche’s side – currently in the relegation zone – would leave LCFC only three points in front of them.
