Yet another setback in Wesley Fofana’s quest to return for Leicester
Sadly for Leicester City and their exceptionally talented centre-back Wesley Fofana, the Frenchman has suffered yet another setback in his return to the team.
This is actually getting silly now. Just when Foxes supporters were at last about to welcome back an absolute fan favourite, Fofana is dealt another blow. You see, the 21-year-old unfortunately contracted the coronavirus – and that happened literally a day or two before his comeback.
Fofana was ‘set to’ make his return versus Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday, according to various reports. Though COVID-19, as we all know, has no boundaries and regrettably the youthful defender will miss out on the first leg clash.
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed the disappointing news to media during his standard pre-match press conference:
"“Fofana won’t play vs Rennes as he’s tested positive for Covid.”Leicester Mercury"
The gaffer did however suggest that the CB could be selected to face Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League. Though, a start, is seemingly unlikely for Fofana.
Leicester City in the UEFA Europa Conference League
Prior to another Foxes European escapade surely beginning tonight, Rodgers also offered his thoughts on the fancied French side his men are about to meet. Rennes is the capital city of Brittany in Northwestern France. The Red and Blacks are performing exceptionally well this season, sitting fourth in Ligue 1 and only three points behind Paris Saint-Germain. If you watched the PSG capitulation against Real Madrid on Wednesday evening, you’ll be aware that they are there for the taking.
The Roazhon Park outfit are described by the Northern Irishman as dangerous; he says they can strike from anywhere in the team and defending must be tight. That last factor won’t fill the Blue Army with hope, due to defensive frailty this season. Additionally, Rodgers’ concern lies with an unnamed striker and winger.
