Are Leicester really vying with Real Madrid to sign Kieran Tierney?
Leicester City have been linked with a transfer for Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney and could face a battle with Real Madrid to secure his services.
The Scottish left-back played under Brendan Rodgers in their time together at Celtic and is reportedly linked with a transfer away from the Emirates in the summer. Rodgers initially tried to sign Tierney to Leicester in 2020, with the Northern Irishman remaining a huge fan of the 24-year-old. However he was unsuccessful in his attempts to bring the former Celtic defender to the King Power Stadium.
Tierney has been a regular starter for the Gunners, making 20 appearances in the Premier League to date. He has impressed in his time at the North London club and earned the attention of not only the Foxes, but also Spanish giants, Real Madrid. That is according to our affiliate, 90min.
The Scottish international has four years left on his contract after the end of this season, so it is unlikely that Arsenal would be willing to let their defender go on the cheap. However, it is reported that should the left-back show signs of interest in a move away from the Emirates, then Rodgers would be willing to make his interest known.
The Foxes have been lacking depth at the back, with only two natural left-backs in Luke Thomas and Ryan Bertrand. The latter hasn’t played a game for the East Midlands side since December, where LCFC were knocked out on penalties to Liverpool.
With the Leicester City boss making it clear that he will be busy in the upcoming transfer window, it is expected that there will be wholesale changes made to the LCFC squad. If the Foxes do make changes to their backline, which is highly likely, then Tierney could lend himself as a potential target for the 2022/23 campaign.
In the meantime, Leicester will be looking ahead to their UEFA Europa Conference League second leg clash against Rennes on Thursday. The Foxes travel to Roazhon Park with a two-goal advantage, thanks to goals from Marc Albrighton and Kelechi Iheanacho in the first leg.
