Brendan Rodgers reveals that a Leicester City player underwent surgery on an injury recently. Foxes of Leicester detail how long understudy goalkeeper Danny Ward should be unavailable.

It is absolutely essential that every professional team has a competent, trustworthy and, invariably, patient reserve or second choice stopper at the ready. Ward has those attributes exactly.

Wales’ No.1 is Premier League quality, I would assert. Although he is probably not going to become the heir to Kasper Schmeichel on Filbert Way, in my opinion. Remaining as the deputy is an option for the 28-year-old; along with the possibility of challenging whoever does replace the Dane in the top spot. Yet some think the Welshman will simply move on in the near future.

Unfortunately for Ward, his season has derailed for now. Leicester manager, Rodgers, revealed that the stopper has undergone surgery. Thankfully the former may be back before the end of the current campaign. Though, with Daniel Iversen’s accelerated ascension as a loanee, and his rising profile, Ward’s next capacity is rather unpredictable:

"“He just had an operation on his knee. It was just to clean up his meniscus so he’s out for a number of weeks.”“It’ll (Ward’s return) probably be towards the end of the season.”lcfc.com"

Leicester are buoyed by a two-goal lead as they fly to France to meet Rennes for the second time in a week. Clearly the first leg went as well as could be expected, including a coveted and rare clean sheet for Schmeichel. The East Midlands outfit’s underwhelming Premier League performance at Arsenal, especially in the last 45, will hopefully be out of the squad’s mind.
