Youri Tielemans has given an interview in which he admits to considering a decision which could cost Leicester City around £40millon. Though the Foxes would keep their prized asset, even if only for another year.

While the majority of the more informed Leicester supporters had resigned themselves to the very likely and unnerving prospect of Tielemans’ imminent departure, it appears that another twist in the rather annoying saga has developed. Transfer czar Fabrizio Romano claims the Belgian has already made his mind up to leave the East Midlands outfit this summer.

However, the Red Devils International has made a couple of statements suggesting his mind is not made up. Most recently, Tielemans even went so far as to say he may remain on Filbert Way for 2022/23, until his contract expires. Notice the words “have to stay” within the quote:

"“My contract expires in 2023 and it’s not that I absolutely want to leave. I haven’t made my decision yet. If I have to stay another year, I will gladly do so.”“There are talks between the club and my advisors. That will remain. So it’s not that I’m ignoring the club. In the summer I will study my options and take the plunge.”Leicester Mercury"

If that commitment was made, it would be amazing to have the talent for one bonus season. On the other hand, he could eventually leave for free and cost the Foxes approximately a £40millon transfer fee. And that value is only less these days because his contract has around 15 months left.

Some of the LCFC faithful aren’t appreciative of the 24-year-old’s comments and believe the talented midfielder should remain silent on the issue. That is mainly due to a consideration of ‘respect’ for the King Power club.

Leicester City lose a game but win the tie

Celebrating a loss always feels strange, and it shall forever remain weird for every fan. Yet defeat on the night to progress to the next round of a tournament is still the surreal but preferable option.

Tielemans said himself: ‘we are not pleased we lost but we are pleased that we are through’, explaining the predicament succinctly. Wesley Fofana’s delightfully placed header was the difference against Stade Rennais.

Rennes were 2-0 victors on the evening in France. Though it wasn’t only the Frenchman’s goal which separated the two in the second of two legs: Fofana brought a dogged desire to win the ball on defensive set-pieces as well as the attacking ones. That area is absolutely terrifying for the Blue Army this campaign in all competition. Hopefully the former AS Saint-Étienne man will help resolve the problems.
