When you look at all the talented players there are in the Premier League, the LCFC midfielder sits above them all in this stat. The fact that Maddison has continued to prove himself as a threat outside the box for as long as he has is truly remarkable, and yet, it is not good enough for him to get into the England squad. If this was 12 months ago, I could understand him being left out, as the one-time England international was going through one of his worst form slumps of his career.

However, the former Norwich City, has been far and away one of the best English attacking midfielders, and his form this season is surely more than worthy of a Three Lions call up. When you look at the wealth of English talent in this current generation, it is understandable that he may not make every squad, however, upon closer examination of the players that he would be competing with, it is hard to fathom how Maddison is not in the England squad at this point in time.

Maddison has the versatility to play either on the wing, in central midfield, or as an attacking midfielder behind the striker. This season he has 20 goal involvements in 40 appearances, with 13 goals and seven assists to his name.
