Senegalese African Cup of Nations winner Nampalys ‘Papy’ Mendy explains what it was like being discarded at Leicester City.

I am not going to make an arbitrary assertion that football pundits and supporters often state, like ‘Papy Mendy has been mistreated’ or ‘unfairly handled‘ whilst with the Foxes. No. That is because top level professionals are more than aware of the meritocracy that must be prevalent in sport. Unless you are Harry Maguire in an England squad, that is!

However, once Mendy began to show the quality and dedication that made him an invaluable understudy – at least – to Wilfred Ndidi, LCFC manager Brendan Rodgers should have recognised the value and potential. Lifting the AFCON trophy was enough, though, to get the Senegal central player reinstated onto the revised Premier League roster.

Although, the ex-Nice guy won’t be able to compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League for the East Midlanders, due to poor foresight from Rodgers. The 29-year-old has spoken on his time in the cold:

"“The first six months wasn’t easy for me, but that’s football. Sometimes you have to accept the decisions that are made. Now I’m back in the squad and I will try to give my best to help the team. It has been difficult of course”.There is more at Leicester Mercury"

Youri Tielemans’ comments on Leicester City future are beginning to grate

In the very recent past, Foxes midfield supremo, Tielemans spoke more candidly about the direction of his career more than other elite athletes. In fact the Belgian, who decided to remain on Filbert Way in the summer, initially said he was mulling his decision and didn’t know whether he would depart or not. Following this, only in the past couple of weeks, the Red Devils star suggested that he was still undecided.

Subsequently the former Monaco man unceremoniously claimed that he might stay with the Foxes another year to see out his contract. Now, obviously the Blue Army want Tielemans to be a Fox in a permanent capacity. Yet proposing to hypothetically leave for free when you are worth north of £40millon is a worry for LCFC and faithful.

Tielemans has also made a further statement on the dilemma, suggesting that he doesn’t ‘worry about it‘. Well, us Leicester fans do, mate! Maybe he should just keep mute when questioned about this, for the good of the outfit, along with himself.
