Leicester once rejected Arsenal star and legend’s son joins first team training
A popular Premier League centre-back was once rejected by Leicester City. Meanwhile, an Arsenal legend’s son joins Foxes first team training.
Ben White has proven himself as a Premier League quality centre-back, and won many plaudits in the process. His disposition is admirable, and the honesty in interviews he exhibits is also refreshing. Now the England scene beckons.
Clearly White would have been a great signing for the Foxes, but that simply wasn’t to be. Between being axed as a 16-year-old by Southampton, as well as an unsuccessful trial with the East Midlanders, he ended up at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Naturally some LCFC fans will be upset that the outfit did not recognise that White had a significant future in elite football. Yet, in the defender’s own words, he just was not good enough at the time. In addition, the Three Lions man claimed his physique has altered for the better in recent years. He mentioned that he was a late developer, too.
"An uncertain period followed. White was offered a three-day trial at League One side Bristol Rovers — “I only did two days because we were literally just running up hills, didn’t get a football out at all … it absolutely killed me, couldn’t do it” — before failing to impress again in another trial at Leicester CityESPN"

More Gunners-related talk now. Kolo Toure has been coaching the Leicester defence since Brendan Rodgers was appointed King Power club boss. Along with the pair came assistant manager Chris Davies, and transfer czar Lee Congerton (now with Serie A side, Atalanta). In the past three years, the Foxes faithful have taken to Toure and his likeable persona extremely well; in spite of some of the awkward defensive play, such as set-piece defending during Rodgers’ tenure.
The Arsenal legend’s son, Yassine, signed a two-year scholarship agreement in December. Now the attacking player, 16, has been granted a chance at development by practising with the senior squad, as per this article. Seven youngsters were promoted, but the group are most likely there to fill the gaps left by Leicester’s international contingent. Though, obviously, this is an opportunity to impress the Northern Irishman.
