Ever since King Power took over the reigns of Leicester City, the Foxes have been known for pulling off brilliant signings of young players yet to make a name of themselves. However, in 2010, the LCFC boss at the time, Sven-Goran Eriksson, went against the grain and attempted to sign one of the biggest names in global football.

David Beckham was plying his trade for MLS club, LA Galaxy when the Swede approached the former England captain, the Leicester Mercury reports. Leicester City were at the time, still in the Championship and it was during Eriksson’s reign where the very first building blocks for promotion were laid.

Eriksson had previously managed Beckham when he was the England manager between 2001 and 2005. Making it at least plausible for the former Real Madrid midfielder to consider a move to Filbert Way.

Unfortunately the East Midlands side were unable to acquire the services of Beckham, with his wife Victoria quick to end any talks of a possible move to Leicester. However, the Foxes did make some key signings during Eriksson’s time in charge.

The most notable signings include, Kasper Schmeichel, Paul Konchesky and David Nugent. These players may not match the star-power that Beckham possessed, even at the age of 35, but they did set Leicester City up in the long-term for promotion and Premier League glory.

Konchesky was a regular for the Foxes when they secured promotion from the Championship and survived relegation the following year. However, he was unable to secure his place in the side the following year and as a result was loaned out before being released 12 months later.

Nugent’s time at LCFC was similar to Konchesky’s, with the former Leicester City striker making regular appearances in the Championship. He was also a part of the 2014/15 squad where the Foxes to pulled off the great escape, but he was also unable to find a place in the side for the following season and as a result left the club in the offseason.

Undoubtedly, the best of the 25 signings made by Eriksson while in charge of LCFC was Schmeichel, who has become a club legend winning the Championship, Premier League, FA Cup and the Community Shield and made over 450 appearances for the club.
