Brendan Rodgers commented on PSV Eindhoven’s star right-winger Noni Madueke, amid Leicester City transfer speculation around the player. Here is what you must know.

A young English winger in the Tottenham Hotspurs academy, courted by Manchester United, Chelsea, and the like, made his decision to ditch England and play for a Dutch side. What a brilliant decision that was for the player.

The England Under-21 international is one of the most technically impressive talents, and looks to follow the footsteps of Jadon Sancho. With lightning pace and a prolific nature all over the pitch, his involvement makes Madueke a very hot commodity.

There is no doubt there are plenty of suitors for the signature of the player. However, possibly the best bet for senior first team football has to be a side without an existing star right-winger. Put plainly, LCFC is an obvious option.

Leicester City boss comments

The Northern Irishman is a long-term admirer of Madueke, and it is understood that the Foxes have the English winger as one of their options for senior first team players in the upcoming squad refresh. His comments illustrate Leicester’s understanding of the player.

"“He’s a talented player, he’s physically very good, he’s got a nice left foot, he’s dynamic, he wants to run in behind… I know he plays with Luke (Thomas) in the Under-21s”– Brendan Rodgers as per LeicestershireLive"

To be honest, these details are obvious to anyone who has watched a single PSV match. I would liken him to a consistent Harvey Barnes: strong left-foot, pacy, and technically excellent. The benefits of this is plain.

The gaffer wants the King Power club to play with greater intensity more consistently during fixtures, as well as pressing higher and more collectively, all on top of retaining and progressing the ball better. These high demands cannot always be met by the current squad.

But with a character such as Madueke on the right, the complexion is altered. That is the one position the Foxes have no serious prolific player in. With Ademola Lookman and Barnes, they have two players more suited to the left, and in March Albrighton they have a workhorse, but not a maestro.

Leicester need another artist, another goal-scorer. Therefore, it makes sense for the East Midland club’s owners to look towards young and prolific talent to bring back to England and excite supporters. It also makes sense for Madueke.

Noni Madueke hints at England return

We know the player chose to follow in the footsteps of players like Sancho, who made the switch to foreign clubs to get into starting XI’s quicker. This lets them play more often, improve quicker, and of course it helps them in their end goal.

"“Most of the boys want to come back anyway to prove themselves in England, but to get to that status where a club wants to buy for a lot of money, I feel like you have to play games”– Noni Madueke as per The Guardian"

Well, he wants to eventually make a return to England for a top team, getting straight into the starting XI. This is why he plays for PSV Eindhoven, so he can prove himself to be capable of playing at any level. Plus, he thinks his time in the Netherlands is coming to an end sooner.

"“Definitely sooner rather than later… There are teams that are interested in me, I know that. I am playing against Leicester, but every team will be watching the game and me”"
