Following the departure of former recruitment head, Lee Congerton, an experienced Premier League transfer chief is set to be appointed at Leicester City.

Some good, some bad is a way to describe the signings made by Congerton while with the Foxes. Successful acquisitions under the 48-year-old in my eyes were: James Justin, Youri Tielemans – if the right fee is obtained this summer – Timothy Castagne, Wesley Fofana and Ademola Lookman on loan.

With regard to the unsuccessful and sometimes downright terrible buys, here is my list: Jannik Vestergaard, Ryan Bertrand and Ryan Bennett. And, I guess, you have to throw in Cengiz Under. Although, some of us wanted to see more.

Meanwhile, hanging in the balance are the jury’s out selections: Ayoze Perez, Boubakary Soumare and Patson Daka. Dennis Praet didn’t work out but it wasn’t the Belgian’s fault, it was mismanagement and saturation.

I think Congerton did pretty well overall: I mean, imagine not having Fofana in general, or Tielemans for the FA Cup Final last season. Though, the former eventually left for Atalanta, and a replacement for this summer’s business is apparently chosen. Southampton’s Martyn Glover shall be head of senior recruitment, according to The Athletic.

A tantalising semifinal second leg in Rome for Leicester City

Nerves, excitement, pessimism, optimism – every sporting emotion is surely prevalent amongst the Blue Army as the anticipation of Thursday’s enormous tie with Roma is settled. For better or for worse. It is doable; I am positive of that. Yet progression to the final is going to be a difficult proposition, as I see it.

Early team news for the East Midlanders is that both Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Maddison – both missed the Tottenham Hotspur loss – have injuries or knocks. However, happily for the Foxes, Brendan Rodgers was positive when asked about the pair’s chances of playing in the Europa Conference League semifinal decider in Italy.
