Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers had plenty to say after an unacceptable loss against Everton at home yesterday. It is the second time in a forgettable domestic season that the Foxes have come up short against a struggling Everton side.

The Blue side of Merseyside has been fighting tooth and nail to survive, and their survival instincts in desperation had the King Power club’s number on both occasions. The six points that Frank Lampard’s side earned from these games only add solid credibility to their chances of survival.

Rodgers has consulted his side in the aftermath of this loss. He held a debrief with the team before coming and talking to the media. As is the norm, the manager and his supporting staff generally wait to sort out the debriefs before a training session.

Leicester City’s ‘rare’ post-match debrief

Yesterday bore the only exception as the 49-year-old gaffer felt the urgent need of an honest chat with the players as the club is on a downward curve having no wins in their last seven games in all competitions.

"“After games, I never normally say so much, if there’s something to say, I’ll direct it, but normally wait until the next day and reflect. But today it was hugely disappointing. Also, I needed a reaction from the players. We need some honest feedback in order for us to go forward. The players were very open and honest in their conversation. That is the best way in order to go forward.”"

The East Midlands side last earned back-to-back victories against Crystal Palace in the league, followed by their latest win against PSV Eindhoven in the Conference League quarter-finals. This draught has given City their longest winless streak in the Northern Irishman’s tenure.

Rodgers did not unveil much about the post-match discussion in the dressing room. However, he clarified that the intent was to get honest feedback from the players on moving forward from another humiliating defeat.

"“It’s private. I’m sure in their own conversations they will mention it but it always stays within our changing room. It was a disappointing result and performance, we started the game well and then like what has happened a lot of the time this season we have undone our good work. It’s a great finish by their player (Vitalii Mykolenko), but we switched off from a throw-in, and then a corner cost us the game. That’s hugely disappointing.”"

"“We had enough of the ball and arrived into good areas, but a lack of quality in the final third of the field cost us as well. I’ve said that a lot this season. We take the game through the field really well and arrive into that area, we saw that against Roma, the same sort of idea. Without James Maddison, who was outstanding for us in those two games, we missed that quality. A very disappointing day for us both in terms of result and performance.” – Brendan Rodgers via Leicester Mercury"

Many fans have expressed their displeasure about the shortcomings of this season. The manager has been criticized for his incapacity to solve recurring issues. A string of vulnerabilities in defense has been left unattended since the turn of the calendar year. The manager’s recent questionable comments have only made the issues worse. Leicester City must sort out multiple issues ahead of the summer rebuild so that there is no room for regret left after a spending spree.
