Leicester vs Norwich: injury news, expected XI
By Nathan Wong
Leicester City head into Wednesday’s clash against Norwich City on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Everton.
The latest defeat on Sunday stretches the Foxes‘ winless run to seven games, having lost four of the last five. Norwich, on the other hand, have endured a miserable season and are already relegated, giving both teams little to play for. Here is FoL’s round-up of fitness issues and team news for both sides.
Leicester City injury news
Fresh from Brendan Rodgers‘ press conference, there are fresh updates on three LCFC players. James Maddison and James Justin are now fit, having missed the Everton game. Unfortunately, Ricardo Pereira is out for the rest of the season with a hamstring problem, compounding his recent injury woes. Other absentees remain in the form of Wilfred Ndidi and Ryan Bertrand.
Norwich City injury news
The Canaries have no further injury issues but are already dealing with an extensive injury list. These are defenders Christopher Zimmermann, Andrew Omobamidele and Ozan Kabak; midfielders Kenny McLean and Mathias Normann as well as attackers Josh Sargent and Adam Idah.
Expected starting XI
City are likely to revert to a more orthodox system than the ‘experimental’ line-up Rodgers attempted against the Toffees. Hopefully, the remaining matches will be used to build cohesion with players who are part of Rodgers’ rebuild next season.
Expect a return to Rodgers’ preferred 4-3-3 with Kasper Schmeichel in goal. At the back (from left to right) are Luke Thomas, Jonny Evans, Wesley Fofana and Timothy Castagne.Rodgers may seek a more positive midfield given Norwich’s ineffective attack, allowing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Youri Tielemans to start in the double pivot. Meanwhile, in attack, Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and Ademola Lookman are likely to start behind a rested Jamie Vardy.
Norwich expected XI
Norwich are also likely to set up in a 4-3-3. The Canaries’ expected XI is as follows: Tim Krul; Brandon Williams; Grant Hanley; Sam Byram; Max Aarons; Pierre Lees-Melous; Jacob Sorensen; Matthias Normann; Kieran Dowell; Milot Rashica; Teemu Pukki.
Prediction
Both teams are in terrible form, but Norwich have been propping up the Premier League for a long time and are even more bereft of confidence than the Foxes. This should be an opportunity for the Foxes to record a confidence-boosting victory and clean sheet. Nevertheless, LCFC cannot keep gift wrapping soft goals to the opposition with the fanbase becoming increasingly unsettled at repeated mistakes. Leicester 3-0 Norwich.
