Is Schmeichel on the verge of a transfer to an EPL club?

Leicester City’s poor season has ended hopes of keeping stars this window. One big-name now linked with moves away is No.1 Kasper Schmeichel.

We have known since the humiliating defeat to Nottingham Forest that the King Power club were to commence a major squad overhaul this summer. It is much needed to be blunt. Big names must go and fresh talent must reenergise the squad. Unfortunately, this means losing key players this summer to fund a spending spree. One such departure is Youri Tielemans. The Belgian is definitely leaving for a Champions League club over the Foxes.

Schmeichel edging towards exit

There have also been more concerning stories this season. The ‘Great Dane’ commented on his future as one not yet decided. A future which he speculated could either be here or with a club that has regular European football.

With Schmeichel’s contract expiring in 2023, this is the last opportunity Brendan Rodgers’ side have if they are to cash in on the captain. Otherwise, they must act to extend his contract, lest they wish to be without a No. 1. There is reported interest in the Danish international from Saudi-funded Newcastle United.
