The third must be obvious. Marcin Wasilewski. A Polish defender who offered Leicester another strong and aerially sound talent. He was not the most exciting of defenders, and nor did he particularly contribute outside of set pieces, but he was strong and crucial in our survival nonetheless.

These were also the same central defenders called upon by Claudio Ranieri in the sensational Premier League title victory. Huth and Morgan were our rocks at the back, and Wasilewski provided the occasional cover.

From legends to sensations

Between those legendary players to our current crop, there have been a series of utter rubbish defenders who provided no benefit. They did not play much because they did not deserve to. These are the Aleksandar Dragovic’s. Players who were underwhelming and did not challenge Huthy or Wes.

However, there are three players since who I think would either start ahead of, or at least challenge, in form Morgan and Huth. Of course, these are Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, and Wesley Fofana.

It is a testament to our recent recruitment that the best defenders of this era are currently at the club. Our current crop have better peaks, more depth, and falter in only one respect. Set pieces. Set pieces were once the hallmark of Leicester defenders, not anymore it seems.
