Leicester City is willing to depart with two players who only joined the club last year after disappointing campaigns.

John Percy reports that the Foxes are prepared to listen to offers for Boubakary Soumare and Jannik Vestergaard. Soumare and Vestergaard only joined Leicester City in 2021, but both have struggled to make a case to be selected on a regular basis.

The Danish defender had a season to forget and made just the 20 appearances across all competitions. The 29-year-old was signed with the hope of improving Leicester’s defence from corners.

However, even with his height, he was often beaten from set-pieces and was a liability in defence. Vestergaard did not make another appearance in the Premier League after he was brought on as a last-minute substitute against West Ham in February.

The last time he stepped onto the pitch for LCFC was in the UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Rennes as a substitute. Soumare has also struggled to break into the Foxes side since he joined from Lille last year.

The 23-year-old started 18 games this season and made 30 appearances across all competitions. The Frenchman was a regular throughout the first half of the season, but since February, has struggled to make it onto the bench.

With the emergence of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall this season, it has pushed Soumare further back in the queue and limited his minutes on the pitch. The French midfielder has shown glimpses of his potential this season, but for the most part, has found it difficult to adapt to the Premier League.

The Foxes will look to make back most of what they paid for Soumare a year ago, but they will struggle to sell Vestergaard for a substantial fee. Next season, the East Midlands side will likely look vastly different from the 11 that took to the field in the last game of the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that there will be a number of new signings throughout the summer as the Foxes look to rebuild for the 2022/23 season and challenge for Europe again.
