Highly-rated Leicester goalkeeper may be transferred from Foxes
Leicester City loanee goalkeeper Daniel Iversen may face a tough choice for the 22/23 season. Th Foxes may decide to either sell or keep the player.
The King Power club are blessed with two great senior team ‘keepers in Danny Ward and Kasper Schmeichel, as well as a strong crop of loan and youth talent building up for the future. One of these is Danish second ‘goalie’ Iversen.
After a strong season with Preston North End, the Danish ‘keeper will be given a chance by Brendan Rodgers in pre-season to prove himself the right to play for Leicester. However, would the player be alright playing second fiddle to either ‘Wardy’ or the ‘Great Dane’? Obviously, no.
Leicester City’s transfer race
It has already been known the player would like to settle into a senior team for next season. This opens the door for either replacing Eldin Jakupovic in the Foxes squad and getting occasional game time, or becoming the No. 1 elsewhere.
Regarding the possible elsewhere there are two destinations currently likely. According to reports, Preston and Middlesborough are vying over a potential permanent transfer for the Leicester player. A two-horse race for one good goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Preston North End’s director Peter Risdale has commented on the potential future of the ‘Keeper who has performed so valiantly for them:
"“The odds of Daniel Iversen coming back are slim… My guess is he will either stay in the Leicester fold or look for a permanent move somewhere”"
Risdale does not believe Iversen is definitively returning to their side after the summer window shuts. Instead, he believes – and I agree – that either the player will remain with Leicester City or be moved on.
A lot depends on whether or not the player wishes to remain on the sidelines at the King Power or not. Should he be happy to train and occasionally impress, then Iversen should seize the place currently held by Jakupovic and look to fight against the Welsh international once Schmeichel decides to depart or retire.
In my opinion, the 24-year-old is not a modern goalkeeper for a Rodgers’ style system. His distribution is not significantly better than that of the Danish No. 1. His ‘keeping is not significantly better than the Welsh No. 1. It is time to let the Dane go and focus on the growth of Jakub Stolarczyk.
