Leicester defender expected to be sold in summer transfer window
Leicester City are expected to sell a defender during the upcoming Premier League summer transfer window. Centreback Jannik Vestergaard has been an unquestionable disaster for the Foxes.
Disastrously devised as it was, I just can’t get away from the unavoidable fact that this signing seemed doomed to begin with. Before Vestergaard was even fatefully watched by Leicester scouts. One last Lee Congerton conundrum; yes, the former recruitment head also got some key acquisitions right. But, wow.
Prior to Leicester making a bid for the Dane, fans scrambled to contrive positiveness from the prospect of the looming incoming: ‘oh, well, he’ll add height when defending set-pieces’. And that aspect worked out so well, excuse my sarcasm: LCFC were the worst team at defending corners in the entire division for 2021/22.
That previous statistic stands when actually comparing the East Midlands outfit with relegated teams, too. Astounding. I don’t want this to be an article targeted at, nor concerned with, denigrating Vestergaard’s variable shortcomings as a Fox. The actual point of the piece is to illustrate that even the illustrious transfer dealings of the King Power side also have their downfall counterparts.
Don’t get me started on the accompanying capture from Southampton, Ryan Bertrand. At least Bertrand was out-of-contract so came at zero cost to Leicester in typical fees. Though the fullback would’ve been given a hefty signing-on bonus and an ample wage packet. My head is in my hands at this stage.
Leicester city man expected to be sold soon
Brendan Rodgers has already outlined major alterations to an evolving squad on Filbert Way during the offseason. First of all, up to five signings are expected to be made: one or two centrehalves, a couple of midfielders and possibly extra attacking backup. Hopefully a Riyad Mahrez-esque winger is among them, but that always appears to be wishful thinking.
So selling an unfavoured CB feels a natural byproduct of purchasing intentions. Vestergaard’s name is high on the list to ship out for fans, along with, apparently, Rodgers alike. However, recouping the former Saint’s outlay is next to impossible.
"Sales are necessary too [for Leicester City Football Club], and Jannik Vestergaard is expected to be one of those, even just a year on from his arrivalJordan Blackwell, Leicester Mercury"
