Leicester City are reportedly interested in Monaco winger Sofiane Diop and will offload Hamza Choudhury to raise funds. Here is all the latest.

Brendan Rodgers’ squad overhaul is underway behind the scenes. Plans to offload players and bring in fresh talent have been made, it is all about choosing the right time to strike and sell.

The two latest details regard one potential purchase and one almost certain sale. Here, Foxes of Leicester will recount why the King Power club want Diop and why they would sell their academy graduate.

Leicester City chase forward

Although supporters will feel the club should fork out the money to sign Ademola Lookman on a permanent basis – myself included – Rodgers’ is exploring alternate options. The French winger Diop and Noni Madueke being on the list.

Regarding the French U21 international, the Monaco player has broken out into the senior starting XI and offered a creative outlet for the side. Primarily performing out on the left, but also on the right. Diop has six goals and four assists in Ligue 1 during 30 matches of the 21/22 season. Additionally, the French forward has notched up three more goals and two more assists across other competitions.

Though not prolific, these numbers are competent for any player and would be beneficial to have on-board. However, the Premier League is a massive step up and the player may need some time to adapt: similar to our Boubakary Soumare. At around £20m valuation, the star would not be a bad get by the Foxes. My focus would be on Madueke before this mainly left winger.

Choudhury out the door

With little game time and few chances to impress, the English defensive midfielder has been wanting a chance elsewhere for a couple seasons. A loan move for the player was plotted by Newcastle United under Steve Bruce before Leicester failed to bring in players during the 21/22 January window.

It is reported that West Bromwich Albion is interested in loaning the King Power midfielder with option for permanent upon promotion to the Premier League. This would free up space in the squad for a new attack minded midfielder.

However, such a deal would not generate any funds for use in other areas of the pitch, apart from a small loan fee we could achieve. Should this be considered, it likely means Choudhury will leave for around £10-15m at most.

Personally, I feel the English midfielder has been good when he has been given opportunities, but will always be behind Wilfred Ndidi and maybe even behind the reliable Papy Mendy.
