Which players are worth picking?
Looking at the initial prices, there are a few standout names. Jamie Vardy has shown he is still one of the league’s most lethal finishers and with fewer games, he may not suffer overuse so much. Even so, £9.5m is hardly cheap especially when he is not guaranteed to start every game.
James Maddison finished the 2021/22 season in scintillating form and is priced relative to this form at £8m. This is equally not cheap but if Madders were to continue his previous output, then he would be an excellent mid-priced midfielder although not as attractive as his price point last year.
Harvey Barnes remains another potentially attractive mid-priced option at £7m with the potential to rack up significant numbers of goals and assists. Although Barnes divided opinion with his performances, he still managed to rack up 18 goals and assists. If the winger is able to improve his form and performances coming into the new season, he may become a more viable asset.
It is also interesting how cheap City defenders are this season with everyone being priced at £4.5m or under. Naturally, this is because of how leaky the defence was last season most notably from set-pieces. Having just watched the first pre-season game, many of the issues are still apparent so it is worth avoiding any LCFC defenders for now.
