Leicester City’s James Maddison has once again been linked wit a move away from the King Power club. Here is what we know and the likelihood of a move.

In previous windows, the English creative midfielder has been the subject of incredible interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. This window appears no different. Transfer journalist Dean Jones has commented on the potential future of the Foxes‘ ace.

Leicester City’s Maddison keen on move

According to the journalist, though a move would be unlikely, the player himself would be interested in the move. There are – of course – plenty of reasons as to why ‘Madders’ may be prepared to depart this summer.

Towards Tottenham, the Englishman would be joining a fast growing and intense Antonio Conte side with plenty of talent around. Additionally, the midfielder would become part of the midfield puzzle for Conte, providing the option to pivot between his favoured 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 formations.

On top of this, financially, the deal would be highly lucrative for our ace. From a higher wage package to fame, and one massive draw unlikely anything we can offer. A spot in the England international team: something only big team players get a chance at, with exceptions of course.

How likely would a transfer be?

Despite the clear advantages of a transfer away, there is surely much to be considered. For example, would Leicester be prepared to sell, and would Maddison be happy with potentially not starting every fixture.

Jones does make a further – more apt – comment on the topic:

"“Leicester have to protect themselves here. I do believe that Maddison has ambitions to move on… I’m just not sure if that opportunity will open up unless Tottenham offer an awful lot of money”"

Brendan Rodgers would not be looking to significantly weaken his side without sufficient financial renumeration in return. There would need to be more than £60m to pry the integral talent away from the Foxes’ starting 11. After all, a good enough replacement would be needed fairly quickly.

Therefore, there is little in this story. The statement that a big club is interested in a Leicester player is not palpable or novel – it is rather incessant and quite the norm now. Instead, these are the usual murmurs of transfer speculation.

If ‘Spurs’ are prepared to offer over £60m for the creative player, I would take it. But I doubt they will spend that much when they have already spent over £100m and have already significantly improved their depth and starting XI. Madders would be an expensive luxury add-on.
