What gets forgotten amongst Maddison’s flair and trickery is his doggedness out of possession and determination to work hard for the team, doing whatever is asked of him from a defensive standpoint to suit the manager’s chosen system. Not only that, but his capacity to quickly wriggle out of tight areas, partake in quick passing transitions and break through a high-intensity press means the playmaker would be the ideal solution to help push the Haringey club to the next level.

Brendan Rodgers would no doubt be gutted to lose a player of Maddison’s calibre, recently describing him as the the best he has seen him. Leicester are well-stocked in many positions, and if the level of injuries of the last three seasons comes down this time around, they will be in an arguably stronger position than they were this time last year.

While Maddison is one of the first names on the team sheet, Castagne might be more likely to be let go, given the quality in the Foxes first team in the full-back positions. James Justin and Luke Thomas cover left-back and Ricardo Pereira arguably the main man on the opposite side.

This could mean the Belgian might be inclined to seek more guaranteed first team opportunities elsewhere, with rumours suggesting that he could return to Serie A. Inter were open to a loan move with an option to buy in January, and The Athletic have drawn links to AS Roma.
