Derby 1-3 Leicester: Foxes player ratings
Kelechi Iheanacho: 7
It was an excellent demonstration on how well Kelechi plays with a strike partner and a willing runner such as Daka. Dropping in the whole between defence and midfield making himself a nightmare to mark. It will be no surprise the quality he showed when taking his goal, a great first touch to get the ball out of his feet and rifle the ball into the bottom corner through the defender’s legs. The only slight knock would have been his final ball lacked real conviction on occasion, the pass he played in behind to release his strike partner which he under hit – a pass he would usually complete with his eyes closed – but all around a solid performance.
Patson Daka: 7.5
The Zambian took his goal very well, bringing the ball down wonderfully and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. Although he will be disappointed about some of the chances he did miss, due to his clinical nature and high standards. His confidence seems to be running high as he was a terror to the Derby back line throughout the tie, constantly presenting his electric pace and running behind. A very promising performance but he will be disappointed with only the single goal.
Substitutes
Hamza Choudhury: 5
Difficult to give a rating for Choudhury due to his minimal impact and limited minutes spent on the field. Therefore, a default rating of five is given.
Nampalys Mendy: 6.5
Despite only playing limited minutes his distribution and ball progression was particularly good and his pin-point ball in behind to assist Daka for Leicester’s second goal was exceptional. A very good display from the substitute.
Callum Wright: 6
Only given a few minutes but he showed great determination and anticipation for his goal, simply gambling that the shot may be parried in his direction. Although he featured very briefly it will do wonders for the young man’s confidence.
