Why Leicester won’t be in a relegation battle in 2022/23
It has been a chaotic summer so far for Leicester City. The Foxes are the only team in the top seven leagues not to make a signing this summer.
If that fact wasn’t concerning enough, rumors are swirling around that a couple of key players could be on the way out. Leicester legend Kasper Schmeichel is possibly on his way out to join OGC Nice. Chelsea is keen on signing Wesley Fofana despite the high asking price. And Newcastle United is keeping tabs on Harvey Barnes.
The Foxes have had eyes on many players this summer, but they haven’t been able to bring a single one in. This is also due to the fact we haven’t been able to sell the players we wanted to. Because of this, LCFC is not only stuck in a big wage mire but the club seems to be in an overall mess. Every Premier League team has found a way to take a step forward this summer yet it only seems like Leicester has taken steps backward.
Has it got to the point where Brendan Rodgers’ squad will find themselves in a relegation battle? No chance. You can’t deny that the East Midlanders have had an awful transfer window so far. Nonetheless, the same Foxes team that was beset by injuries and set piece problems finished eighth in the EPL last season.
In a campaign that felt like a worst-case scenario, they were able to finish in the top half of the table. Plus, during last season, we had to play European games as well. Rodgers’ side will be much more rested up this season.
Plus, just look at the players in our squad. Even if we ended the summer with zero signings, the players on our roster are too good of quality to be in a relegation battle. You can’t keep a straight face and say players like James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi will be fighting the drop.
We still have the whole month of August to buy/sell players, our team is already great. Hopefully Fofana won’t leave us this offseason, either. City will simply not be in a relegation battle in 2022/23.
