Dewsbury-Hall is talking like the next Leicester captain
Leicester City’s breakthrough star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is already talking like a contender for the captaincy once Kasper Schmeichel departs.
With transfer news whirling around club captain Schmeichel, it looks as if it is almost time for Brendan Rodgers to select a new captain for the side. That player must follow in the footsteps of the ever-dependable Wes Morgan and ever-present ‘Great Dane’.
A plethora of options have presented themselves. Vice-captain Jonny Evans is the first, and possibly easiest, option available to the King Power side. A simple promotion for a strong leader. Even Jamie Vardy and James Maddison have had shouts for the captaincy.
Leicester City’s future captain
However, regardless of the undoubtable talent and inspiration those players might afford the East Midlands side, Leicester should be looking towards the future. Rodgers could either choose a short-term captain in either of the more experienced players, or build the club around a younger captain.
For me, after comments made recently by breakthrough star ‘KDH’, the English midfielder has furnished himself a strong option available. Dewsbury-Hall offers a future to build around. He provides inspiration, ambition, and energy to the team.
As per LeicestershireLive, the comments the talented midfielder made after the 2-1 Preston North End pre-season victory provide an insight into the Foxes’ captaincy contention:
"“I want to build a legacy, not only for myself but for the football club. We’ve got a vision at this club to keep improving”"
The player is both an ambitious professional and a genuine supporter of the King Power side. At Leicester City, the midfielder wants to create a legacy which progresses both himself and the club. Unless sold, KDH wants a future here and a future for the club.
"“I don’t want the football club to stagnate… We’ve got big aspirations for the future… we just need that mentality, that winning mentality”"
This commentary from the fan-favourite is bang on the money. The Englishman has the right attitude to play for the club, develop at the club, and be a major part of the side going forward. That winning mentality, that progressive mentality, that ambitious attitude we desperately require.
"“I want to be a top player… you have pressure on you, you have to perform… I want that pressure on my shoulders”"
There remains little doubt in my mind: should the Foxes want to build around a player, it should be our ‘wonder wall’ Dewsbury-Hall. From the academy all the way to the first team, KDH has portrayed himself in a positive light and never let the task slip. He is already talking like a captain in the making.
