Why Perez and Choudhury didn’t feature vs Sevilla
Foxes of Leicester detail the reasons for the absences of attacker Ayoze Perez and midfielder Hamza Choudhury in the recent friendly versus Sevilla.
Even the players who are lower in the pecking order are important to LCFC, especially with no signings seemingly coming this summer. Having said that, let’s check on the status of some backup players; one of whom will now almost certainly be thrust into the limelight of the starting lineup.
First of all, Ryan Bertrand has undergone a second knee operation, apparently. Therefore the former Southampton man won’t feature for Leicester for some time. Obviously he may not have been playing much anyway; there is also a chance that Bertrand was up for sale following a troubling maiden year on Filbert Way.
Danny Ward is the player who is about to be in action who I alluded to earlier. Kasper Schmeichel is on the precipice of joining OGC Nice; a medical has taken place in France and Schmeichel will sign the deal today.
Ward is expected to be the first choice goalkeeper on Filbert Way, so will be in the net for the Brentford clash on Sunday as the Premier League season begins. And manager Brendan Rodgers recently updated media with injury information on his new No.1:
"“He’s been coming back,” Rodgers said on Ward. “He’s been working with the medical team and he’s been out on the pitches of late now, so we’re hopeful he will play in the behind-closed-doors game (on Monday).”"
In addition, Rodgers clarified why Choudhury and Perez were not involved in the Sevilla friendly. Both men were absent through ‘illness’; yet the boss said the pair shall return to training during this week. Obviously this explanation is slightly dubious or convenient, as the duo are supposedly on the unwanted list.
Apparent Leicester City transfer target speaks on speculation
Leicester are targeting Matt O’Riley in this deathly silent summer of theirs. O’Riley, however, is content at Celtic, it appears. The London-born player is a Denmark Under-21 international midfielder. The East Midlands were said to have wanted to add two athletes of that specification to the squad in this window. Yet LCFC fans won’t be confident of even one arriving at this stage.
Acknowledging rumours connecting him with a move to King Power Stadium, the Hoops man said that Celtic Park is the ‘perfect’ place for him. Furthermore, the 21-year-old asserts the transfer window is “crazy” for gossip, and is aware that Leicester “like” him.
