Leicester City midfielder Dennis Praet has finally decided upon his future amidst a harsh transfer window. Here is an update and our thoughts.

The Belgian attacking-midfielder was a fan favourite for a long while, especially during the 20/21 season, where the 28-year-old featured significantly less. Even at the point of competitors playing worse, Praet was given little chance.

As such, the King Power club sent the penetrating midfielder on-loan for the duration of the 21/22 campaign. At Torino, he featured 24 times, scoring two goals and two assists. Although these numbers were not prolific, they are perfectly fine.

This was a loan with option to buy afterwards. However, Torino did not exercise their entitlement. It was expected the Belgian would request a transfer, especially after making rather critical comments on Rodgers’ unfair treatment of the player.

Leicester City make transfer decision

A move has not materialised this window. It seems the 28-year-old will continue to serve the Foxes, and this time should be utilised a little more often than during that disappointing 20/21 campaign.

The Northern Irishman has commented on Praet’s situation, as well as what was expected to happen, and why a move has not happened for the player. As per LeicestershireLive:

"“He was maybe one who wanted to move on and play, because he was in that situation before. But he’s come back reinvigorated and really wants to be here at the club”"

A positive loan move, some time for self-reflection, and the continued adoration of supporters have contributed in a great position for the midfielder. Praet was in a situation where the club expected him to request a transfer, yet the player chose not to.

Instead, our third Belgian felt more ready to challenge for his place. Instead of feeling all sorry for himself, Praet wants to stay with the King Power club and wants to win those minutes he deserves. Clearly the club feel the same way.

"“He’s very much a part of what we’re doing… I’ve been delighted with Dennis… over the course of the pre-season, he’s looked strong, he’s looked fit and he’s done very well in the games”"

I for one can concur with Rodgers: Praet has had a strong pre-season outing and impressed. I think his versatility has drastically improved, and continue to believe his stylistic divergence from James Maddison and Ayoze Perez offers a critical choice in midfield.

Despite a strange transfer window, the ‘AM’ will stick with the side, fight for his place, and prove he deserves to stay with Leicester going forward. At least, we can hope this is how Rodgers will treat Praet this time.
