Whilst news of incomings has been quiet for Leicester City, there have been numerous reports of players wanting to leave. Chelsea are attempting to sign Wesley Fofana, Arsenal are long-time admirers of Youri Tielemans, Manchester United want Harvey Barnes and Newcastle have submitted a bid for James Maddison.

Numerous pundits looked at these rumours and have immediately written the Foxes off – some even tipped the club for relegation in their click-baited social media clips. Meanwhile, Leicester’s only major departure has been Kasper Schmeichel.

Whilst time will tell on Fofana’s exit – which is fully dependant on Chelsea actually paying the money required rather than attempting to unsettle the Frenchman with bids of £60m – one deal that won’t happen is Newcastle United’s audacious bid for James Maddison. First reported at the end of July, the Magpies submitted a £40m offer for the playmaker as they aimed to make him their big summer signing.

The bid went as badly as it could have for the Geordies and their new Saudi Arabian regime: it was was laughed at, immediately rejected, and failed to turn Maddison’s head. In his first press conference of the season, Rodgers joked and claimed that the £40m would ‘just cover three-quarters of his left leg’ – Maddison is right footed.
