Now, further information has since been revealed over the internal feelings of the rejected bid. In his latest piece for Sky Sports, Rob Dorset revealed he was told privately that ‘Leicester’s bosses have found Newcastle’s offers for Maddison verging on the offensive.’ Not only is the deal off, but the offer was so misjudged that the board were offended by their valuation. It’s expected that Newcastle will look for other targets – I’m not so sure that the Foxes would entertain doing business with them anytime soon.

How much would Leicester City’s James Maddison cost?

After a superb stint at Norwich, Leicester signed Maddison for £22m in the summer of 2018. At the time, it was seen as a lot of money to gamble on a Championship player who had little top-flight experience. Looking back, it was a bargain.

Since then, the No.10 has played 171 games for the Midlands club, netting 45 goals and assisting 33 (statistics from Transfermarkt), winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield and, if not for repeated hip injuries, his goals and assists would be significantly higher. Last season he enjoyed is best form in front of goal in a Leicester shirt, scoring 18 and assisting 12 in 53 games.
