With Leicester City only making the one solitary signing during this summer transfer window, many Foxes fans have become understandably frustrated with the lack of fresh faces entering the club. But with rumours circling that Leicester are one of the clubs interested in Manchester United midfielder James Garner, it may just soften the blow of an underwhelming summer.

It was reported yesterday by numerous sources that Manchester United are willing to let go of the 21-year-old Garner. It was also confirmed by the very credible journalist Ekrem Konur on twitter earlier today that the Foxes were among three teams – Nottingham Forest and Southampton – interested in the signing the highly rated midfielder.

Foxes of Leicester were also told by Konur that the Red Devils’ asking price is around $15M. That equates to roughly £12.6m.

Garner impressed many on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, where he made 44 appearances as the side was promoted to the Premier League. With the Manchester club not acquiring their number one transfer target in central midfield Frankie De Jong. It was hypothesized that the young Garner may have been given a chance to fill that role, but now it seems the holding midfielder is surplus to requirement and will be moved on to raise funds.

Where does this leave Leicester? Well with Hamza Choudhury leaving on loan for the season to Watford, Boubakary Soumare seemingly seeking a move away as well as the unknown future of Youri Tielemans.

The Manchester United man would provide brilliant back up to Wilfred Ndidi, while also providing some attributes that the Nigerian cannot. For example, receiving the ball off the back line on the half turn and then break the lines with progressive passes at high efficiency. The signing of Garner would be an excellent move for Leicester City, especially at that price.
