If you go to Twitter, other social media or virtually anywhere on the internet and search ‘Fofana’, the general conclusion you’ll come to is that Leicester City will lose their star prospect in this summer’s transfer window.

What you won’t see until you look beyond the clickbait tweets, dramatic article titles and reactionary threads, is that the party line among those in the Foxes ranks is that the young French defender is not for sale. And that as far as the club’s hierarchy is concerned, Fofana is going nowhere yet.

Additionally, while the No. 3 has now told the club he would like to leave to join Chelsea, this isn’t likely to persuade LCFC to sanction a transfer, given that he only penned a new 5-year contract earlier this year. And it’s this bumper contract, specifically its duration, that is all part of the grander plan at the King Power for Fofana, with the Athletic reporting that Leicester have a roadmap that eventually leads to an exit for the Frenchman, and a massive pay day for the East Midlands outfit. Rob Tanner, the man on the Leicester beat at Athletic HQ, last night suggested that the Foxes wanted to tie their young defender down to a long-term deal.
