With the transfer window drawing to a close, there have been reports that Leicester City is interested in signing a new winger. Foxes of Leicester examines fresh speculation.

According to The Boot Room, Nicolas Pepe is a transfer target for the Foxes. The Arsenal winger is expected to depart the London club before deadline day and Leicester has emerged as a potential suitor for the 27-year-old.

It is no secret that Leicester is in an awkward position in terms of making transfers, with players needed to be sold first in order to bring in any fresh faces. With Boubakary Soumare, Youri Tielemans and Wesley Fofana all linked with other clubs, there is still a chance the Foxes could sell a player and get a deal done in time to bring the Ivorian winger to the King Power Stadium.

However, the transfer would not be without competition, as the same report suggests Nice could be interested in signing Pepe. This is a move which would be massively beneficial for the Foxes, who still have yet to find a permanent replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who departed the club in 2018.

Pepe signed for Arsenal for a club-record fee in 2019 and has made 112 appearances for the Gunners. In that time he has scored 27 goals and made 21 assists. However, the right-winger has fallen down the pecking order and made just 20 appearances in the Premier League last year and has yet to step onto the field this season.

If the Foxes can free up wage space by selling a player, then Pepe could be a signing which could  help kickstart the East Midlands side’s season. His electric pace and dribbling ability makes him a constant threat and the fact that he is a left-footed right-winger, means he fits perfectly into what Brendan Rodgers had hoped to sign at the start of the season. However, with the transfer deadline inching closer and closer, a move will have to be made quickly for Pepe to join Leicester City.
