Exclusive: Transfer expert offers details as Leicester City chase signing
By Akash Roy
Leicester City has the option to approach Alfredo Morelos, who wants out of Scotland. But do the Foxes need another attacker, especially one that can play on the left, right, and centre?
The Columbian sensation has become a case of chaos and is now a liability for Glasgow Rangers. As a central figure of the team, his recent indisciplinary actions had forced Giovanni van Bronckhorst to omit him from their critical Champions League play-off game against PSV Eindhoven.
Morelos was shown a red just after 13 minutes into their last league game against Hibernian. The message is clear- he doesn’t want to stay in the Scottish Premiership anymore. Despite being Rangers’ top-scorer in European competitions, the manager had made a decision after Morelos came late for their final training session before leaving for the Netherlands.
"“I think he has to show me he wants to play for Rangers. I know he wants to play, but to play for Rangers you need to have a certain level mentally and physically, and at the moment I think he is not ready to play. As a person, it was a hard decision. As a manager, it was an easy one because we are here to represent our club and to get into the Champions League tomorrow evening. In my eyes, this was the best squad to take.”– Van Bronckhorst, via The Athletic."
Rangers were able to progress in the competition, but they now have an unmotivated player whose temperamental issues are affecting the club, adversely. The Scottish outfit does not want to sell him, as they once did. But neither can they carry on with the rift between the manager with the dissatisfied attacker.
Should Leicester City go after another supposed “basket case”?
The 26-year-old striker has reached his ceiling in Scotland and wants a new challenge. He has been fined on multiple accounts by the club for his tardiness. Additionally, he feels he is being kept captive. He wants out with his new agency acting for a move to see him in a bigger picture.
Sevilla has reached out to hand a pre-agreement, while others like Leicester City, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace have been seriously considering approaching his agents. Morelos lacks consistency and has several disciplinary issues, but he is a guaranteed goal scorer. Are clubs willing to take up a gamble and roll the dice?
FoL reached out to the man who broke out the story. We asked transfer specialist Ekrem Konur for information in order to understand if there was any feasibility with the move for us. Konur disclosed that the player is unwilling to sign any extension offered by Rangers. He is an admirer of the Premier League. The Columbia international desires to join an English side.
For City, this story appears one of desperation. Signing defenders is a must: Brendan Rodgers needs at least two good players to fix the prolonged issues. However, if he fancies taking his chances on merely outscoring opponents to earn victories the hard way, he may require another goal scorer.
