World-famous actor Matt Smith was released from the Leicester City Academy at age 16. Portraying Dr Who and Prince Philip in The Crown won him many plaudits and now he stars in the engrossing and brilliant Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon. But what about his link with the Foxes?

Matt Smith is certainly one of the more uniquely recognisable and quality British performers of his generation. A vast range is complemented wonderfully by an onscreen intensity. It’s fair to say that us movie and television fans will be entertained by his talents for years to come.

Yet something even more fascinating about Smith was recently revealed, and Leicester fans will surely be pleasantly shocked. Apparently the thespian was once a youth player with the Foxes’ academy.

However, his dream of turning pro’ was sadly ended by a back condition named spondylosis. Upon leaving LCFC at 16, Smith turned his full attention to acting.

Leicester City misconceptions

While lazy judgements may suggest that Leicester are in a complete mess, I would say that assessment is inaccurate. On the pitch and with regard to staff and certain players – it is worse than that. However, as a club, off the field LCFC remain in a potentially great position.

If debts are managed well, the King Power Stadium’s capacity is finally increased with a ground update, and the Foxes are not relegated – that won’t happen – then subsequent seasons will be much more enjoyable and fruitful. Premier League sustainability is the key for chairman Khun Top Srivaddhanaprabha, as it was with the late, beloved Khun Vichai.

Times merely felt different in recent campaigns due to unprecedented success. Additionally, the east Midlands club was always able to sign some fine athletes because of their prolific as well as profitable offloading. Which are two elements yet to occur in 2022. Keep the faith, Blue Army.
