Another defender
The perfect window would be to completely revolutionise our centre-back line-up. The King Power club need two central defenders to go along with their already acceptable fullback set up. Jonny Evans is considered vital, so there needs to be depth or competition for the captain.
The only choice for that role is Benoit Badiashile. Yes, another French defender. This time, hailing from AS Monaco, this time Badiashile has primarily performed duties on the left side of the defensive line. As with Lacroix, the 21-year-old does tend to drift wide when dribbling, often driving the ball forward when the team struggles to progress.
Stylistically, the defender is similar in profile to Evans. SmarterScout rate the talent at 94/100 on dead ball aerial duels (corners/free kicks), 93 on ball recovery, 71 on attacking output, 67 on defensive quantity and play disruption. A disruptive, aerially strong, yet still progressive defender.
Observing Badiashile’s FB Ref ratings, this is one remarkable player. He exists in the 95th percentile for xG assisted, 91st for interceptions, 89th for progressive passing, and 87th for aerial duels won. This reflects the quality of his passes, the impact of his dribbling, and the ability of the Frenchman to defend from corners.
As expected, Monaco would not give the player away for cheap. Therefore, anywhere from £15-25m could be expected depending upon how good the King Power side can negotiate. Once again, half the available budget from Fofana’s sale could be invested in this crucial upgrade.
There is little doubt in my mind, Leicester City should go in for the 21-year-old and improve their defensive line-up with both Lacroix on the right and Badiashile on the left. Leave Evans to hold Caglar Soyuncu’s hand and build a French wall.
