Only AFC Bournemouth have conceded more Premier League goals than Leicester this season, whose backline has looked incredibly shaky since the campaign’s outset. Despite this, James Justin has been a shining light among a dysfunctional unit, and his calmness and assuredness was on display once more at Stamford Bridge.

One of the reasons Harvey Barnes seems so sure on being aggressive and direct in his forward play is because he has the security of Justin being a competent and positionally aware full-back behind him, and the left back did brilliantly to prevent Mason Mount from burying a header in the first half. Kai Havertz had a quiet afternoon, with Justin dealing with his aerial and technical threat relatively comfortably.

Leicester might not have started the season how their fans would have expected, but it’s not unreasonable to suggest Justin might play himself into Gareth Southgate’s World Cup thoughts, particularly given the England national side isn’t blessed with magnificent left-backs. If the No. 2 continues to impress, there’s a fair chance the Foxes’ performances will naturally improve, and that he might be in line to retain his place for the September internationals.
