Todibo fits this profile perfectly, with FBRef’s comprehensive analysis ranking him just outside the top 10 per cent of all centre halves in the top five leagues for passes attempted and progressive passes. The caveat here is that every team plays with a different style, so these statistics aren’t reflective of the game states they were collected in, but the Foxes are enjoying plenty of time on the ball, so such an addition would complement the manager’s chosen style of play.

He’s played in four countries

Despite only being 22 and therefore well away from his peak playing years, Todibo has completed something of a European tour already, having turned out in the colours of four of Europe’s historic clubs. After graduating from the Toulouse youth system, the defender earned a transfer to Barcelona, where he was contracted for two years, but spent time on loan at Schalke and Benfica before finally finding a permanent home in Nice.

His existing contract is not due to expire until the end of the 2025/26 season, so he’s unlikely to be a cheap acquisition, but Rodgers could be keen to persuade Todibo to make the King Power Stadium somewhere where he can settle down for a few years and emerge as one of Europe’s top defenders. There’s an opportunity, after the departure of Wesley Fofana, for a defender to make that slot alongside Jonny Evans his own, and it’s up to whoever wants it to stake their claim to do so.
