The chaos of Leicester City’s transfer window knows no bounds, and it appears the footballing gods have allowed the King Power club to reach their most outlandish zenith today. Reports originating from Spain have seen the Foxes linked with none other than five time UEFA Champions League winning left-back Marcelo, who is a free agent after ending his 15 year spell with Real Madrid this summer.

These links were met with ferocious excitement by a good portion of the Foxes fan base on social media, the type of sugar-induced giddiness that only a child on Christmas Eve could replicate. The shiny new toy that was dangled aloft was only the smallest carrot to throw rationality and sensibility out of the window.

Leicester City have constantly been synonymous this summer with inactivity, mostly attributed to financial conservatism in a well-intentioned bid to balance the books due to increased wage demands and a reduction in saleable assets. However this standoffishness has inadvertently slipped over onto the selling side as well as purchasing, with players who were expected to depart still on the club’s books and earning more than good money.
