Why Leicester shouldn’t sign the legendary Marcelo

Therefore the East Midlanders would be looking at a situation where they have two left-backs (the other being Ryan Bertrand) who aren’t likely to be first choice earning a collective £200,000 per week. For a club who is seemingly skint, or effectively so in football terms, bringing somebody in on such big money with no resale value after summer of such little hope would be beyond irresponsible. Such a desperate, PR stunt of a signing would be a sad departure from the transfer policy that has seen the club rise from a mid-table Championship side to the proven Premier League force that it is today.
Let’s not deny the obvious merits: Marcelo’s presence would be just magical for the likes of Luke Thomas and James Justin, who could learn a lot from examining his behaviours and skill set on the training ground. It was also be a huge lift to the dressing room if the Brazilian did sign on the dotted line.
But these positives are massively outweighed by the overwhelming limitations that such a signing would bring. Foxes fans have had to accept that the first team will barely improve, and if Marcelo does sign, it will feel like such a waste of money that could’ve been redistributed elsewhere to make a tangible difference to the outlook of the first team picture.
