Changes to Leicester City XI expected for Brighton fixture
By Ethan Henson
The Foxes’ back four defended broadly well as a unit against Manchester United, coping well with the threat of Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Elanga, the latter of which was stifled very well. The caveats here are that the visitors offered precious little going forward after taking the lead, and that a lapse in concentration led to a breakdown in communication and Jadon Sancho scoring the game’s only goal.
This came during a five minute spell midway through the first half where it appeared Luke Thomas could do no right, and for the goal, the left-back was caught too far forward in transition leaving space for the visitors to break behind him. Soon after, Thomas’ confidence appeared to be shot as he gave the ball away and got caught ball-watching a couple of times, but to his credit he regained his composure in the second half.
If Faes comes in to partner Evans, City’s full-backs will need show some positional discipline to accommodate the lack of pace behind them. Timothy Castagne or James Justin might have been more structured in their position on the left-hand side, and it would not be a surprise to see those two line up as Rodgers’ full-back pairing for the Brighton fixture.
