Leicester City have endured a torrid start to the 2022/23 season, lying bottom of the league after six games. To compound Leicester’s misery, the squad could be further decimated by outgoings despite the English transfer window closing at the start of September. The latest of these has been confirmed by transfer maestro Fabrizio Romano, which FoL brings you the latest coverage of.

It would be an understatement to say Caglar Soyuncu is out of favour at the moment. Since losing 3-1 to Tottenham last season, the Turk has not started a single Premier League game. His watertight partnership with Jonny Evans back in 2019 seems like a world away.

Although the Premier League transfer window has closed, according to Fabrizio Romano, Galatasaray are interested in signing ‘Cags’ who has fallen behind Daniel Amartey and even Wilfried Ndidi in the pecking order. This would be a loan deal, although it would likely culminate in Soyuncu leaving permanently as his contract ends in 2023, with little indication he will renew his deal.

This would represent a fall from grace for the one-time team of the season defender who has never recovered since he lost his head away at Bournemouth. Now, it appears that the relations between Rodgers and Soyuncu have degraded to the extent that the former has lost total trust in the Turkish international. Meanwhile, the latter is down to posting cryptic social media messages. In all honesty, many fans will justifiably sympathise with Caglar being treated rather unfairly, another criticism to levy on the manager.

Although Soyuncu was rightly punished for pulling out of the 50/50 against Spurs,  his punishment seems rather excessive. Given Leicester’s well-documented defensive issues this campaign, it is baffling why he has not been given a chance. Brendan Rodgers may well rue his stubbornness in persisting with Ndidi and Amartey out of position rather than an out-and-out defender.

Brendan Rodger’s, it’s time to leave Leicester City

After watching an abject 5-2 defeat, this only reinforces the fact that Brendan Rodgers must be sacked. For someone paid £10m a year and given significant control over recruitment, he has done a woeful job. Yes, he has not been adequately backed this campaign but this does not hide the dreadful shortcomings that date back to the end of the FA-Cup winning season. Hopefully, Khun Top will see the league table and do the right thing for LCFC before it is too late.
