Leicester City have been abysmal in the opening five games, and Brendan Rodgers has come under fire for comments made. Here is what he has said since.

The King Power club have been rubbish defensively. Their system, structure, and work rate is all over the place and terribly inconsistent. The greatest offence has been a lack of tracking back and compactness in defence, providing too much room for attackers to play.

Five games, one point, rock bottom of the Premier League. The Foxes can do much better than that. Rodgers can do better than that. Although, it seems the gaffer wanted to deflect attention from poor decisions and a lack of structure with comments recently made.

Leicester City’s gaffer responds

After all the criticism, Rodgers attempted to deflect from decisions by claiming the starting XI has hardly changed or been refreshed in two seasons, and that the King Power side have not had the support from the ownership in the market. Of course, this ignores there have been plenty of signings: the Northern Irishman’s transfers have been subpar though.

However, in the aftermath of those comments and further criticism for what was perceived as blaming Kuhn Top for not investing enough in the market – despite record losses and previous support – Rodgers clarified his comments.

"“There is no way that I ever had a notion to expose them. They have been honest enough to say how it is. Top’s notes have made it clear… It has clearly been a really difficult market for us. But the bigger picture was the club”Via LeicestershireLive"

Apparently, comments blaming a lack of refreshment of a fairly young and pretty good starting XI for failures was not meant to expose the board. Anyway, the supposed reality is that the gaffer and the boss have been open and honest with supporters with the difficult situation.

It is not so much they could not have done more in the recent market, it is that it would have been unsustainable alongside the losses and a lack of sales. Foxes supporters would have liked more signings, but it is all about setting the expectations right. Were we headed in this direction, there should never have been talks of a refresh.

"“I can only judge it on the squad that I have and when I see the competitors it is clear that a lot of our competitors have improved.”"

The Northern Irishman has seen other teams improving in the market, where the King Power club have not. Nevertheless, Leicester does have a good starting XI with only really one major hole (right wing) and in my opinion, Rodgers should be doing much better with what he has and focusing on what he has rather than commenting on what he has not got.
