Leicester City legend is right about not sacking Brendan Rodgers
By Ethan Henson
Make no bones about it – the start to this Premier League campaign has been nothing short of disastrous for Leicester City, and fingers are rightly being pointed at Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman has taken responsibility, as he should, for the performances on the pitch, and should be very careful about speaking what he believes to be truth regarding investment, or lack thereof, in the summer transfer window.
Speaking to BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club yesterday, one Foxes title winner claimed that it wouldn’t be right for his former manager to be relieved of his duties, despite Sunday’s abysmal performance. Christian Fuchs, who also won the FA Cup under Rodgers’ stewardship, thinks it would be irrational to look for managerial alternatives, citing a shortage of viable replacements:
"“Leicester made such a big leap forward, into the right direction. We all challenged for the Champions League. “The way the club has progressed, if he would leave that would have a significant impact on the club because he has really transformed the club from a counter-attacking team that’s based on possession. “But if he leaves, who do you bring in? Who can follow his great footsteps? BBC Sport"
While I sympathise absolutely with the bad sentiment towards Brendan Rodgers, the nadir of which was reached with Sunday’s pitifully bad and wide open farce, there is an abundant lack of top quality managers out there who fit the profile of exactly what Leicester will be looking for. Names being mentioned include Sean Dyche and Rafael Benitez, whose style of football is the antithesis of the philosophies that the Foxes have worked within for almost a decade.
