A new Faes

The best news coming out of the conference, Rodgers revealed that new signing Wout Faes is available for selection. The Belgian centre-half missed Leicester’s embarrassing 5-2 loss at the hands of Brighton as he experienced issues with his visa.

Those issues have since been resolved and the 24-year-old is now primed to make his debut. Already capped for Belgium at senior level, Faes played 77 games for French side Reims before Rodgers identified him as Wesley Fofana’s replacement.

Whilst a new face in the backline is undoubtedly what the Foxes need, hopes must be tempered as to how much of an impact Faes can have. The defensive issues have been plain to see in the whole squad, the best that the Belgian can hope for is that his presence raises the standards of those around him.

Another boost for the club, and particularly the defence, is that their new set-piece coach – who has yet to be named – has arrived at the club following his visa issues over the summer. The suspension of the Villa game will give him extra time to work on his ideas as the club aims to improve both the defensive side of their set-pieces, as well as helping the team capitalise on the set-pieces of their own.
