Wilfred Ndidi berates journalist for insinuation about Leicester man
Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has chastised a journalist for making an insinuation about him after the player went home from international duty.
Ndidi has has a rough time of it, especially of late. In the not too distant past he had to deal with injuries of varying degrees of severity, but always seems to maintain a positive outlook.
Even when the Nigerian is out of the Foxes team for various reasons, or being used as a makeshift centreback – a capacity that appears inadequate these days – he is undoubtedly one of the shining lights of the LCFC squad. So it was strange to see the master interceptor clearly upset with a journalist, though arguably justifiable.
However, following multiple fitness problems and calls from an increasing number of Leicester fans for Ndidi to lose his starting spot – specifically the defensive midfielder position, possibly to Boubakary Soumare – it is simple to understand that the athlete may be more easily annoyed. As you can see above, reporter Sulaiman Folarin claimed that the Fox was unhappy at also being asked to play in defence for the Super Eagles. Ndidi had previously left the Nigeria camp due to another injury problem.
Folarin subsequently insinuates in his tweet that supposed annoyance at the position change request could be reason behind a premature return to England. The onetime Genk man then responded angrily and sarcastically, implying that the former’s information is incorrect.
Leicester City players playing for their countries
We are right in the middle of another Premier League break for the Nations League. I won’t bore you with my opinion that the ‘tournament’ should be scrapped and is a waste of time, considering a peculiarly timed World Cup is right around the corner. International football is great, but the club schedule is already absolutely packed.
Anyway, back to the more interesting topic of Leicester’s globe-trotting personnel. Most recently, midfielder Youri Tielemans played for Belgium in their 2-1 home win against Wales. Under pressure LCFC ‘No.1’ Danny Ward was an unused substitute for Rob Page’s team on the night. Timothy Castagne did not feature via the bench for the Red Devils, either.
Caglar Soyuncu was substituted at halftime during Turkey’s 3-3 draw versus Luxembourg, captaining the side for the first half. Luke Thomas was brought on for action by the England Under-21s, as the Young Three Lions defeated Italy U21s 2-0 in a friendly encounter.
