Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi sustained a minor hamstring tear whilst on international duty with Nigeria. This is the player’s apparent return date.

While Ndidi’s form has suffered in recent times, he may be the victim of his own high level of performance and achievement. You see, he simultaneously topped the Premier League completed tackle and successful interception charts at times over the last three seasons. His typically majestic pounce to win a ball is a sight to behold, as well as an integral part of the LCFC midfield.

And I say this as someone who has been unavoidably hyper critical of the Nigerian. Over the years his lack of technique, with respect to passing and shooting, did annoy and upset me. In particular because ‘Wilf’ is simply better than what he was exhibiting on occasion under little to no pressure.

However, what Ndidi did not deserve is the telling-off from floundering goalkeeper Danny Ward during the dismantling at Brighton & Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium. The former Genk man may have played a few misplaced passes in that dreadful outing, but in the instance Ward juggled like an out of work circus performer and was duly robbed of possession. The mishap seemed entirely the Welshman’s fault. The makeshift centreback – who didn’t need to be deployed there – played a simple back pass.

If Ndidi loses his CM starting place to Boubakary Soumare or Nampalys ‘Papy’ Mendy, so be it. Yet the 25-year-old does not need to be used as an auxiliary centrehalf, especially with Caglar Soyuncu needlessly on the substitute’s bench.

Some thought being sidelined may gift chances to Soumare or Mendy, although it looks as though Ndidi isn’t too badly injured following withdrawal from the Super Eagles squad. The latter could be fit for the Midlands derby versus Nottingham Forest on Monday, 3 October.

Leicester City striker also has fitness problems

Daka is on duty with the Zambian national side presently. Unfortunately the striker has been taken ill in Mali; the ex-RB Salzburg athlete is currently recovering in the Copper Bullets squad’s hotel. From what Foxes of Leicester has seen at this stage, it is unclear whether Daka will be ready for selection versus Forest or not.
